What causes it
Causes include pregnancy, significant stress, rapid weight loss, over-exercising, thyroid dysfunction, PCOS, perimenopause, hyperprolactinemia, or stopping hormonal birth control. Periods can also be delayed by illness.

When to see a doctor
Take a pregnancy test first. See a doctor if periods are absent for 3+ months (amenorrhoea), if this is new and unexplained, or if you have other symptoms like hair loss, weight change, or discharge.
